WHAT IS THIS?
Saga Corpus is a fantasy adventure dreamwidth roleplaying game based on Norse Mythology. With Ragnarok approaching, Freyja and Odin have decided to split up in the hopes of doubling their training time. Freyja agreed to take the women, and Odin has kept the men. Set in Freyja's realm of Folkvangr, characters are placed in the forest, assigned a new home, and are expected to begin training immediately. Saga Corpus will feature characters being given personal missions to further their training, in the hopes of them rising to the title of Einherjar. Characters will also travel to the nine realms to gather clues about Ragnarok, and how to keep the world from ending. Under the wings of Freyja and the Valkyries, it is hoped that they will flourish into fine warriors, worthy of fighting in Ragnarok.

WHAT IS THIS GAME RATED?
16+. If the game were applied a MPAA rating, it would be rated R. The game will feature fantasy violence, light gore, heavy themes regarding life and death and lots of big, fluffy cats.

WHO CAN I APP?
Saga Corpus is women-only. If your character is a woman in her canon, has enough focus on her to have a character, and is not based on, or one of, the Heathen Gods, she's appable. Real people are also not appable.

CAN I APP A TRANS WOMAN?
Absolutely. She'll find herself among company like herself; quite a few of the Valkyries are what humans consider trans themselves.

IF THE GAME IS WOMEN-ONLY, IS IT ALSO F/F?
There is very little focus on romance in game. We would like to explore all genres, and this possibly includes romance. However, it is largely up to the players if they wish to explore romance. It should be noted that none of the Valkyries have a problem with it, and it is common for them to take a wife. Additionally, Freyja is a Goddes of Love and Fertility, as well as a Goddess of War, so it's not as if she'll have anything to say about it. It is completely open to players if they wish to explore romance or not.

HOW DID MY CHARACTER GET HERE?
That's where the AU bit comes into play. Einherjar are chosen after death, so, essentially, she's dead. Freyja's keeping her alive and giving her the privilege of becoming Einherjar. Later, she may live in Asgard with the Aesir, or become a Demigod, or even be reborn back on Earth, once it's recovered from Ragnarok. Maybe. No promises have been made, as oath-breaking is one of the greatest sins you can commit.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY CHARACTER ARRIVES?
In Folkvangr is Freyja's seating hall, Sessrumnir. She'll be placed into it, given little information, and be forced to wait for the rest of the new recruits. Once everyone is settled in, Freyja will give the newly deceased women a succint explanation of what is going on, where she is, where she'll be living and how she'll be expected to live. The doors will then open to the rest of the trainees, and everyone will be allowed to mingle.

It is expected that all of the women will live by the creed 'no woman left behind' and help them settle.

New characters will be approached by the dwarfs and asked to fill out a questionnaire so that they can forge a personalized weapon for her. This weapon will be durable, strong, and created specifically for her hands, and for her needs.

WHERE DOES MY CHARACTER LIVE? WHAT IS LIFE LIKE IN GAME?
She will be living, with three other women, in a tree. The trees in Folkvangr are old and large. They've been hollowed out, and inside them now are stairs. Up in the branches now sit four homes, and one of them will belong to your character. Each home is small, but it offers privacy. The door will not open for anyone but the woman it belongs to, thanks to Freyja's magick.

Folkvangr is home to many creatures, wooldland and magickal, all of whom can speak. Through it runs crystal-clear river canals, and it is lit by the power of the land wights. They live in the ground, but they're sensitive -- walk carefully along the ground and don't bump into the lampposts. They don't like being hit, you see, and they may stand up and just scamper off, leaving you in the darkness of the forest.

In the river canals live the Margygur and Marmennill, who can prophesy the future. You will recognize them more readily as mermaids and mermen. Treat them kindly enough and they might teach you some tricks of their own to help you as a Seeress, or Healer.

Travel in Folkvangr is aided by skogkatt. You may recognize them as Norwegian Forest cats. There are many smaller ones around, but larger ones can be found easily and will help you cross long distances. Should you be able to fashion one, skogkatten can also lead a chariot. Curiously, there are rumors of a winged skogkatt that lives in the forest. Regardless of whether or not such a creature exists, it would probably make travel easier and more exciting...

Daily life in Folkvangr is expected to be ruled by training. There is a library, old and dusty, where Seeresses and Healers may take in the words of wise men and women. It is owned by a very old woman, who has a very bad personality. Be mindful of any bones you may disturb in the library.

Training shieldmaidens will be expected to practice and learn how to use their weapons and wit in battle. They will train with each other and Valkyries. Like the Seeresses and Healers, they will be expected to train to the best of their ability. The training grounds are old and have been host to many things of questionable nature, so tread carefully upon that hallowed ground. You never know who you might wake up.

Characters may be given quests and sent to the Rainbow Bridge to travel to one of the Nine Worlds, or asked to fulfill a specific task for Freyja or one of the Valkyries. A request for these missions must be given oocly. They will be in addition to monthly events, so plan wisely.

As for more simple things, meat is provided by Freyja. Each morning, one of the skogkatten will deliver a package to your door, with the meat of Saerimnir. Fruits and berries grow mysteriously on the trees, so she may gather them from the window of her home. The river water is clean, and though there is no electricity, the wights' power extends to the treehouses. Lights may be turned on and off at her leisure. She is expected to cook and prepare her own meals, so if she cannot cook, perhaps she should quickly make friends with someone who can.

When not focused on training, there will be feasts, parties and celebrations. Freyja would remind each of them that they all have weaknesses, and that surviving Ragnarok will require making up for those weaknesses. These weaknesses may not be overcome on one's own. Your bonds with each other are important and integral to your survival. Friendship, and love of all sorts are welcome here, and encouraged; survive and live on with each other. Once you are Einherjar, you deserve it.

HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE?
Face to face.

In Saga Corpus, there is no magickal communication vine. There is no network. The mirrors are not enchanted for Folkvangr-wide communication. There are ways to enchant things to work as cellphones do, but that can be difficult magic and it would require the other person to have the receiving end on them. Some may think that scrying can be used for communication, but the fish people in the river canals would have your ear for such poppycock.

Instead, you are expected to contact people face to face.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SHIELDMAIDEN, A SEERESS, AND A HEALER?
A shieldmaiden is a traditional warrior. She is the one with a bow and arrow, the one with a sword. She is the physical fighter and heavy hitter on team. A seeress is the witch. In other words, she is versed in magic and can use it for harm or for healing. She fights with her staff or magic book, or any other enchanted item. As the shieldmaiden is an integral member of the team, so is she. A healer is the irreplaceable support of the team. As the defensive member, she is expected to be on call to heal their wounds, and lessen damage. Like the seeress, she fights with an enchanted item of her own. She is just as important to the team as a seeress or shieldmaiden is.

You will be trained according to your type, though your 'type' might not be revealed for some time. Freyja encourages everyone to mingle and make friends with each other, so that everyone can make up for each other's shortcomings. It is important to know your strengths and weaknesses in battle.

CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT WEAPONS?
Freyja has enlisted the dwarfs to help her provide each of the would-be Einherjar with a weapon. Each weapon is hand selected for her. It is based off a questionnaire that she will be asked to fill out when she arrives in Folkvangr. The questionnaire asks obvious questions, like 'Are you right handed or left handed?' or 'Have you ever used a weapon before now?' Simple yeses and nos will suffice, but the dwarfs are crafty, despite their ghastly origins. The answers to more personal questions like, 'What do you fear?' and 'Are you a hero?' will heavily influence their weapon decision for you.

It may take some time before she receives her weapon. The dwarfs return to their home realm, mine for the materials, and then smithy them.

OOCly, we ask you to give us a list of three appropriate weapons for your character. We will select from there, then, which weapon you receive. Anything can be a weapon, from the traditional sword, to a very unconventional Nokia phone. Each one is personalized to fit your character's build and strength.

Enchanted items are trickier. As said earlier, how you fit into this battle may not be obvious at first. You may wind up needed an enchanted mirror, for example. The dwarfs can craft the most beautiful, bewitching mirror, but the magick it will be imbued with will not come from them, nor will it come from you. One of the Valkyries will have to take it to Vanaheim or Alfheim, where one of the residents of those lands will handle the initial magickal break in. You will expected to charge it once monthly with the magickal properties it needs, and it must never go unused for long periods. Magic is fickle, you will learn.

As she grows as a fighter, she may have a new weapon forged. Indeed, they may even break in battle. Though dwarf made weapons are said to be indestructible, they have not been tested on every sort of material and power in the Universe. Take care of your weapons. Without them, you would be lost in battle.

WHAT ABOUT TRAVELING BETWEEN WORLDS?
Traveling between worlds means you must cross the Rainbow Bridge. It is the highway between worlds, and it can be a dangerous ride to and from worlds. Freyja may have you make the journey by way of her ship, also named Sessurumnir. You may also be gifted a horse to make the journey on, should the Valkyries or Freyja feel as though you deserve such an honor.

WHAT HOLIDAYS ARE CELEBRATED IN FOLKVANGR?
Plenty! There's Yule, of course, Disting, Summer Finding, May Day, Midsummer, Freyfaxi, Winter Finding and Winter Finds, as well as the feasts and celebrations. You'll find that adjusting to holidays in Folkvangr is easy -- recently, things were adapted to better fit the times. The Aesir like to hip, you know...

There's also feasts, though you're not necessarily obligated to attend those. The food is very delicious, though.
